Shrewsbury - Hotel and office development
Dunedin Property acquired the brownfield site in Shrewsbury (a former 8 storey telephone exchange stood on the site) as part of a potential redevelopment of the nearby Riverside Shopping Centre. The sale of the retail asset meant an alternative development strategy had to be prepared.
Detailed consultation with the local planning authority followed by targeted marketing to hotel operators led to a mixed use redevelopment of the site. A 130 bed hotel together with a small office block was submitted following concerns over a proposed residential option as the site lies within a Zone 3A flood risk location. Detailed consultation with English Heritage on the scale and massing of the development has taken place.
RETAILfuture provides development management advice to Dunedin and has also dealt with negotiations with the local authority and hotel operator. On receipt of planning a sale of the site will take place to allow the hotel operator to complete the development of the hotel.
